Announcements

Beginner3 min read

Broadcast important updates to your whole company or to all internal staff — visible on the dashboard and on a dedicated announcements page.

Key concepts

  • Announcement: A short message with a title, body, and priority. Posted by admins, seen by teammates.
  • Priority: Visual emphasis level — Normal (blue), Important (amber), or Urgent (red).
  • Targeting: Controls who can see the announcement:
    • All Users — visible to everyone, including guests
    • Internal Only — visible only to non-guest users (employees and admins)
  • Pinned: A flag that promotes an announcement to the top of the feed and into the dashboard widget.
  • Expires At: A date after which the announcement is no longer shown. Leave it empty for no expiry.
How to

Step-by-step

On the Dashboard

  1. Open the Dashboard.

  2. The Announcements Widget shows up to three pinned announcements.

  3. Click any announcement to expand it inline, or click View all to open the announcements feed.

On the Announcements Page

  1. Navigate to Announcements in the sidebar.

  2. See the full list (up to 50) of announcements you are eligible to view.

  3. Each entry shows the title, body (preserving line breaks), priority color, author, and publish date.

  4. Pinned announcements appear at the top.

Create an Announcement

  1. Navigate to Settings > Announcements.

  2. Click Add Announcement.

  3. Fill in the form:

    • Title — the headline users see.
    • Content — the body text (line breaks are preserved).
    • Priority — Normal, Important, or Urgent.
    • Targeting — choose All Users or Internal Only.
    • Expires At — optional; a date after which the announcement is hidden. Leave blank for no expiry.
    • Pin to top — check to feature the announcement on the dashboard widget.
  4. Click Save.

Edit or Delete

  1. On the Settings > Announcements list, locate the announcement.

  2. Use the row actions:

    • Edit — update any field, including targeting, expiry, and pinning (pinning is the Pin to top checkbox inside the edit form — there is no separate pin toggle on the row).
    • Delete — permanently remove.

There is no deactivate option; to stop showing an announcement, delete it or set an expiry date.

Tips & best practices

  • Use priority sparingly. Keep Urgent for safety, security, or revenue-critical items. If everything is urgent, nothing is.
  • Pin only 1-2 announcements at a time. The dashboard widget only shows three, and pinning too many dilutes attention.
  • Use Internal Only targeting for staff-only notices (e.g., a payroll change) so external guests don't see them.
  • Set an expiry date on event-based announcements (all-hands on Friday, quarterly report due next Monday) so they auto-disappear.
  • Announcements also trigger a notification via the notification system — teammates get a bell alert and, if configured, an email/Slack DM.
