Departments
Organize your company structure by creating departments, building a hierarchy with parent-child relationships, and assigning employees to the right teams.
Key concepts
- Department: An organizational unit within your company (e.g., Engineering, Marketing, Finance).
- Department Code: A short identifier for quick reference (e.g., ENG, MKT, FIN).
- Parent Department: A department can be nested under another department to represent your organizational hierarchy (e.g., "Frontend" under "Engineering").
- Employee Count: The number of employees currently assigned to each department.
Step-by-step

Deleting a Department
Navigate to HR > Departments.
Hover over the department you want to remove and click the Delete (trash) icon.
Confirm the deletion in the dialog that appears.

Tips & best practices
- Set up your department structure before adding employees -- this makes it easier to assign employees during onboarding.
- Use short, memorable codes (e.g., HR, ENG, MKT) so they are easy to recognize in reports and lists.
- Take advantage of the parent-child hierarchy to mirror your real org chart (e.g., "Backend" and "Frontend" both under "Engineering").
- Check the employee count before deleting a department -- reassign employees first to avoid confusion.
- Use the Org Chart view to get a visual overview of your entire organizational structure at a glance.
